Matinkylä is becoming a new public transport hub for Espoo. As the commercial center rapidly expands around the bus and metro station complex, new public buildings are needed to keep the urban space public in nature. A swimming pool adjacent to the new metro station would be public service at its best. The proposed new pool opens wide up to the street but hides itself from the park above it. It also lifts the park area to the shopping center level to allow bridge access directly to the new commercial plaza across the road. This would block most of the ever rising traffic noise from the park and create a pleasant new south facing grassy slope for the residents to enjoy. The new sports court adds a much needed multi-functional outdoor space to the Kalapuisto Park.
