Villa in Raasepori

ALA has designed a new main building for an estate of historical and socio-cultural significance. The project has consisted of various newbuild and renovation elements completed over an 8-year period on a beautiful open waterfront site. Building protection and conservation have had an important role in the project as the old villa built in 1869 was restored and the site’s farmstead landscaping is treated as nationally valuable by the Finnish Heritage Agency.

The first phase of the project included a new seaside sauna reusing the log frame of the old sauna, which had evidently already been reused before. The second phase consisted of restoring the old villa and adding a new porch for thermal comfort in this often cold seaside climate. The project’s third phase, completed in late 2024, is a new villa for the client’s family. Additionally, an old barn was renovated and a tractor shed replaced with a new garage.
